Here are just a few excerpts from this stunning book.
I know what you're thinking. You're wondering how can an accountant such as myself teach you to motivate your basketball players. Well, of course, it's easier for me to motivate my accountants than for you to motivate your players. After all, accounting is something everyone dreams of doing. All over the nation, kids watch accounting on television and then go out in the backyard and practice various accounting techniques until the sun goes down.
Sure, basketball isn't as fun, but you know what? Some days, my accountants feel just like your basketball players. Some days, they just don't feel like accounting. They're sluggish. They want to cut out from work early, and they resent me for making them do so much work. Simply put, they aren't happy accountants.
That's when I take them aside and remind them of the big picture. I remind them of that special rush of adrenaline they get when they've successfully balanced the books or taken advantage of an obscure tax law. And I tell them that the only way they can get that feeling again is through hard work.
Hard work isn't always fun, but it always pays off. It pays off for my accountants, and it will pay off for your basketball players, even if they're weren't lucky enough to become the accountants they always dreamed of being.
Never underestimate the importance of math. For example, you might be tempted to send your team on the court without making sure you are using the right number of players. Remember. You can only use five players at a time. Use a calculator to count your players, or even take an extra time-out just to make sure. Math mistakes like this may not seem important now, but they could add up to trouble later on.
Always make sure your basketball team is motivated. For example, I remember back in 1993 when my accounting team was working on some tax returns. It was late in the tax season, and the pressure was really on. I could tell some of my accountants were getting demoralized, so I called a meeting. That's when one of my accountants, Frank, stood up and said -- I'll never forget these words -- "Aw, screw it. Let's just file for an extension." And so we did.
Of course, you can't do that in basketball, so you probably should motivate your players instead.
Those are just some of the exciting lessons you will learn. Throughout his book, Arthur W. Henderson, C.P.A. tells fascinating stories of his experiences with bookkeeping, auditing financial statements, conducting agreed upon procedures work, and more. In this excellent book, Arthur W. Henderson, C.P.A. reveals the lessons he has learned in accounting and shows how those lessons can be translated to the world of basketball.
This is a terrific book that you can't afford not to buy, but don't just take our word for it. Listen to the experts.
"What a great book! Many of the stories are metaphors and can be applied to basketball. At least, I hope they can, or else I just wasted an entire day reading some stupid book about god damn accounting." Boston Celtics President and Head Coach Rick Pitino (as told to Bob Ryan).
"Hey, cool, I'm getting paid just to say something about this book." Chicago Bulls Head Coach Phil Jackson (with Frank Deford).
"This is pretty neat. Maybe one of these days, I'll get around to reading my own book. I hope it's just as good." Miami Heat President and Head Coach Pat Riley (and Leigh Montville).
"Course I didn't read it. What? You think I got time to read your stupid book when I'm out sleeping with 10,000 women." Wilt Chamberlain (as told to Rick Reynolds).
Don't miss out! Order your copy today. Do it for yourself. Do it for your basketball program.
